Cameo Club

The Club provides monthly lunches for elderly, lonely, housebound or disabled guests who live within the Marlow neighbourhood.

The lunches are cooked in the kitchen of Marlow’s Liston Hall and are served in the Hall’s Garden Room. These facilities allow the Club to cater for a group of up to twenty-five guests at a sitting. The Club has up to fifty guests on its books, divided into two equal groups. Each group has a lunch every other month on the third Wednesday of the month.

A day or two before each lunch the guests are contacted, normally by telephone, to determine if they will be attending and to confirm the availability of transport by the Club’s drivers for guests with mobility problems.

The lunches, which are normally served from 12.30 pm, comprise a hot main course followed by a selection of puddings, coffee and chocolates. The guests usually wish to contribute a few pounds into a money box to help cover the cost of the lunches. Whenever possible the lunches are followed by a speaker or other entertainment, and the event ends at 2.00 pm.

New members of the Club and volunteers who are prepared to act as cooks or drivers or to help in other ways, are always made very welcome and are able to join in the Club’s social activities.

Friday Club

Each week, the Friday Club provides a friendly and informal day out in the Garden Room at Liston Hall.

The Club caters for up to 30 senior citizens who live in the Marlow area and enjoy company and entertainment as well as a tasty, freshly prepared lunch.

For those guests who require some help to get to and from Liston Hall, transport may be requested from the Club’s volunteer drivers.

On Friday morning, our guests start to arrive from 10:30am and are greeted with their choice of tea or coffee and plenty of biscuits. A selection of crosswords and word games is on offer for those who enjoy them, but there’s always someone to chat with if puzzles and reading aren’t your thing.

A two-course, sit down lunch is prepared in the kitchen by our Lovely Volunteer Ladies, and served in the Garden Room at around 12:15pm. Lunch is followed by a raffle and the Club ends between 1:30pm and 2:00pm. Guests are then free to do their shopping in the town centre – a two-minute walk from Liston Hall.

Guests pay £5.50 for each visit, payable in cash on the day. For an additional 50p, guests can buy a ticket for the raffle. Raffle prizes are provided by the Club, although we always appreciate donations of prizes from guests and others.

The Club meets every Friday. We close for the Easter and Christmas holidays and have a longer summer break throughout August. The Club also holds an annual Summer Treat for guests, either an outing or some organised entertainment, and always including afternoon tea.

We are always happy to be contacted by anyone who would like to join the Club as a guest and to welcome new volunteers and drivers.
