Many organisations in Marlow rely on volunteers, including Marlow Community Association itself. Following on from the very successful Volunteer's Fair held at the end of April, this page will present details of current volunteering opportunities. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to take a more active role in the local community, then please have a look to see if there's anything that would suit you.
And if you are part of a local community organisation or group that is looking for volunteers and you'd like to advertise here, please contact the office or email with the details.
At the moment, we have details of opportunities at:
Marlow Community Association - Honorary Secretary . Both these positions have now been filled. :)
Liston Hall office
MCA's Friday Club
MCA's Cameo Club
MCA's Tea Dance
We need people to help in the office at Liston Hall. The office is open on weekday mornings from 9 until 12 (from 10 on Wednesdays) and there are normally 2 people there from 10 till 12 - Cindy, our administrator / office manager and a volunteer or on Wednesdays, two volunteers.
Volunteering involves a two hour stint on a regular agreed day every other week. The role is to support Cindy by answering enquiries, processing bookings, taking payments, logging keys in and out and other general admin tasks as needed. Much of the activity is paper-based, though we do run an online booking system in parallel to a paper diary, so IT skills are not necessary, though might be helpful for some things.
Any day would help though the particular need at the moment is for people for Wednesdays. Please be assured that training will be given and you would be there with someone who is more experienced.
If you think you might be interested, please contact Cindy on marlowcommunity@btconnectcom or 01628 472558 or drop in during office hours - except on Wednesdays! :)
The Friday Club is a section of the Marlow Community Association. We are looking for helpers to join a small team cooking a good lunch for between 12 and 15 senior citizens on a Friday morning between 10am and 2pm at Liston Hall. We work in teams of 3, sometimes 4, on a rota basis - so not every week . You can do some cooking if you so wish or just assist in the kitchen preparing vegetables, set tables or make coffee and talk to the guests.
Most of our guests are in their 80s and 90s with a few in their late 70s. Some are brought to Liston Hall by car and others make their own way. They arrive sometime after 10.30 for coffee and a chat and lunch is served at 12.15. They then get taken home at about 1.30/2.00pm.
If this might be for you, then please ring Caroline on 01628 471669 or talk to Cindy in the Liston Hall office.
We are also in need of some extra drivers - again on a rota basis so not every week.
The Cameo Club is a section of Marlow Community Association. CAMEO stands for 'Come And Meet Each Other'.
Cameo provides lunches monthly to local senior citizens, but sadly due to a lack of volunteers at the present time we have to run two groups, which means effectively the guests are invited bi-monthly. Lunches are held in the Garden Room at Liston Hall on the third Wednesday of every month. Teams of volunteers cover the lunches through the year so you would not be required to help every month.
If you might be interested in volunteering to help, please contact Carole Holme on 01628 473577 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to hearing from you.
MCA Tea Dance
On the second Thursday of every month, there is a Marlow Community Association Tea Dance at Liston Hall. You can join in the dancing if you want to - but come and help us prepare Afternoon Tea (tea, sandwiches and cake) for about 20 people from 2-4pm. You'd only be needed once every few months and we work in twos so you wouldn't be on your own.
Please ring Caroline on 01628 471669 or talk to Cindy in the Liston Hall office if this is small job you might like to do.
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting other people and could do a regular 2, 3 or 4 hour slot once a month at our local Museum as a steward to welcome visitors. It's all about Marlow, but you don't need to know a great deal about local history, because you will pick it up as you go along. You find out some fascinating things. There are always two stewards on duty, so you won't be alone.
From March to the end of October we open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 1-5pm and on Wednesdays from 2-5pm. In the winter the hours are reduced to Sundays only from 2-4pm.
You may be surprised to know that we have visitors from all over the world! So it is a great pity when we cannot open the Museum because we don't have enough stewards. Would you consider helping us? If so, please email email@example.com or ring Della on 01628 482515. Thank you.
